What Is AimPoint?
AimPoint is a green-reading system developed by Mark Sweeney. Instead of trusting only what your eyes see — which slopes, mounds and surrounding terrain can easily fool — AimPoint teaches you to feel the side slope of the green through your feet, turn that feel into a percentage, and use the number to find one specific aim point for the putt.
The AimPoint Express Read
The Express Read is the fast, on-course version of the system. It comes down to three steps:
1. Feel the slope — Stand with your feet straddling the line of the putt, between the ball and the hole, and sense which way the green tilts and how much.
2. Find your aim point — Hold up the number of fingers that matches the slope percentage to locate the exact spot to aim at.
3. Adjust and roll it — Your arm position adjusts the read for green speed and for uphill or downhill putts. Then commit to the spot and putt.

Learn AimPoint with Doug Spencer
AimPoint is learned best from a certified instructor, who can calibrate your feel for slope and check your reads as you go. Doug Spencer is an AimPoint Certified instructor and has included AimPoint in his coaching since 2007. In a session at NorthStone Country Club in Huntersville, you will learn the Express Read on real putts and leave with a routine you can use on any green.
